News from Banff and Buchan Labour Party

Dr. Glen Reynolds selected as Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Banff and Buchan

Following a meeting of the Banff and Buchan Constituency Labour Party on the 22nd. February, Dr Glen Reynolds has been selected as the Labour Party’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the 2010 Westminster General Election.

Constituency Labour Party Chair Peter Hawkey said:

"I am delighted that Dr Glen Reynolds from Pennan has been selected by the membership.

"To many of them it was important to select someone both local and who had the ability to stand up and fight for the changes needed in this area.

"They have got that in Glen.

"I and the local party are looking forward to continue working with him in battling for the needs of this area."

Further to his selection, Dr Glen Reynolds said:

"I am delighted to have been selected to stand for the Labour Party in Banff and Buchan.

"With Alex Salmond standing down, and the SNP having withdrawn all major policy options save one, (independence) it is crucial that the people of Banff and Buchan are offered the change that they deserve, to a party with proven policies and commitment in difficult times ahead

"I want to be that voice at Westminster for the people in the area where I live and work.

"People have also seen what the Lib Dems have done in Aberdeen City and we do not want that to happen in Banff and Buchan.

I have met the people on the doorsteps and in their businesses that are crying out for change, and the Labour Party can deliver that.

"It is appalling what is happening to areas such as Fraserburgh, Banff and Macduff who are effectively excluded from the commercial investment targeted in the recently revised structure plan for this region.

"This will dominate the economics of the region for the next thirty years and Fraserburgh, Banff and Macduff, have been totally ignored, left to scavenge for bits and pieces of the economic cake.

" These are proud historical areas which deserve better, and will achieve it under Labour.
